We had fun Saturday night, went to dinner with the other American families we met yesterday at the baby house. Tom and Kathy (the other WPA couple who go thru the process with us simultaneously) finally made it after being stuck in DC airport b/c of the storm. Also met Dolores & Chris, a farm family from upstate NY, and Coach Kelly & his wife from Indiana. Went to a restaurant, the Line Brew, that had menus in English, and we were very excited – good food too.
It was a slow day today, just went to the Baby House once in the morning, then went to lunch near our apt. with Nastia (our interpreter); then we have the rest of the day off. Still sticky and hot, but will upload pics as we can. To pass some time, we walked over to Central Park and looked around. We can walk to the TsUM Store or the baby house as soon as we get our bearings.
Our best interpretation of the baby house name is “Nezabudkah”. Not sure what that means in Russian or Kazakh, but maybe we’ll find out before we leave – we’ve got time to ask, right?
We’re both adjusting to the time change still. We managed to stay awake past 10 o’clock last night, but then we were both awake again at 4:30. Hopefully, we’ll get out of the early wake up habit soon. There’s very little to do between 4:30 and 9:45, when we leave for the Baby House, and for whatever reason, we can’t get on the internet during that timeframe. Ahh, the days of dial-up. We’re re-learning patience with regard to that.
Can’t wait to get back in the swing of things tomorrow and see our little guy. He spent some time on all 4’s again today and he got fussy when he had a wet diaper – and fortunately, we figured that out fairly quickly.
More tomorrow, assuming we can connect without too many problems.
P.S. The feature presentation last night on the laptop (thanks again, Cathy, you're a lifesaver!!) was "Rushmore". We managed to stay awake for the first 75 minutes and then we both fell dead asleep on the couch. Here it is 4:30 a.m. again and we're up and raring to go!! And oddly, we were actually able to get on the internet. Woohoo!!!
