Went to the Baby House this morning and found Cam a little fussy in his crib. We picked him up and found an extremely yucky diaper to be the culprit. We changed him and then Brent set about feeding him breakfast. In the middle of breakfast, our translator came up and said that they were going to the town where Cam was born and asked if either of us wanted to go. We had decided that one of us should stay with the baby, so Buffy went and Brent had kid duty.
Brent said that Cam was quite upset for about 10 minutes after Buffy left and refused to eat. Eventually he settled down and got back into the groove. They spent the rest of the morning playing and went for a stroll outside.
Buffy rode with the translator, the coordinator and a lady from the Baby House to Cam's town of birth. The landscape along the way is very much like the plains in the US. Lots of rolling land with brush growing. There were mountains in the distance. The lady from the Baby House asked how Buffy liked the scenery and she said, "It's very nice." The lady seemed to think that was an odd response and asked, "What's nice about it?" Buffy replied that it reminded her of home and also where Brent grew up. That must have satisfied the lady because that was the end of the conversation. Below is a picture of the sign for Cam's birth town and also the maternity hospital where he was born. The town itself doesn't have too much to recommend itself, but we're glad one of us was able to get there.
When the ladies returned to the Baby House, the morning visit was over and Brent's pants proved that Cameron was quite the squirmy worm during breakfast!! They were a mess. We grabbed lunch and then went back for the afternoon visit. We fed him lunch and then played for a bit. Around 3:00, Dr. Lubov came and we went to her office with the translator, Nastia (short for Anastasia - she's a very sweet girl), for the medical review. We didn't really learn anything we didn't already know. We did get his schedule and his most recent weight and height. According to the book we have, he's still within the normal range for those things, so we were glad to see that. Also, there has been some dispute about his birthday. We were told that it's 11/14, but then since we've been here, they've said that his birthday is 11/13. This afternoon, the doctor said that his birthday really is the 14th, but he was born at 12:15 a.m. so for that reason the papers say the 13th. We're going to celebrate the 14th regardless of whatever the papers say.
After that, we went back up to the room, read some books and put him down after another diaper change (liquid-free this time!). That's the latest here! You're always welcome to send us email directly, if you don't want to post comments to the blog: buffy.dewitt@sbcglobal.net.
