Calling all experienced parents...

Does anyone have great tips & tricks for trimming little baby fingernails? Our little wolfman needs a manicure before the villagers come with pitchforks & torches, but naturally won't sit still for it. Mom even resorted to exposing him to BBC World in an attempt to bore him into a glassy-eyed trance, but it only worked for 3 fingers.

Help!!!

I always cut D's finger/toe nails while he was sleeping in the carseat (after a ride). I got so fast that I could do all 10 and get him into the house before the dog even knew we were there. After I cut his finger, I never tried it again while he was awake.

I agree with cutting fingernails when the child is sleeping. Also try cutting at bath time when he is being distracted using the other hand in the water.

Sounds like a plan- while sleeping. Also- I do as many as I can at a time- it might take a couple of days but eventually we get there.

Sorry time is dragging. We can't wait for you to come home. Take care!

Trimming while asleep is essential, and I've always used nail scissors instead of clippers. I do so from a safety standpoint and have never cut a finger or toe yet! (Fingers crossed)

Good to hear that you are so close to coming home. Thanks for the updates.

Jeanne says that she waits until near naptime, after a bottle, when they're complacent and just kind of lay there. She uses a blunt pair of scissors specially made for baby fingernails. Regular adult clippers are too scary.

We've been getting a bit of experience lately.

The baby fingernail clippers were good for my boys. They are smaller and so the curve is better suited to the baby fingernail curve. I tried the scissors, but they were just too clumsy. OR maybe that was me. DEFINITELY while they are sleeping. I never felt more of a brute than when I cut Seamus' finger the first time I tried to cut his nails! Too, too easy to do. Good luck! Frances

Not too sure if it'll be any easier, but you could also try using a nail file. That way if he squirms, you won't be in danger of cutting him and he may be more interested than scared of the file. Who knows -worth a try! :)
